Because of timing constraints, I can only visit the Otavalo market on a Sunday. Are things really quiet on Sundays there? Is it still worth going on a Sunday?

Yes, you will find just a few places closed but mostly everyone is open because they expect locals and foreign tourists to go spend their money. =)

Yes definitely, mostly it`s just the food vendors that aren`t there. Probably 25% of the artisan vendors aren`t there but Otavalo is such a huge market it`s still great. and there are lots of other things to do there as well. The waterfalls are beautiful and then you have the lakes. If you don`t have a lot of money I recommend just shopping around the market for a while and you can actually walk to the waterfall from the main plaza and hike to the top of the waterfalls. You can actually go into the water at the top of the falls, it`s still a great day.
