We are considering Ecuador as a possible retirement home. We have never been to Ecuador before and want to see a broad range of the country to get a feel for it in a relatively short period of time. As such, we want to visit Quito, Banos, Cuenca, Guayquil, Salinas, Manta. Bahia, Altames, etc. My question is this - Is a rental car a feasible mode of transport between locations? I have not seen any comments anywhere that addresses car rentals in Ecuador. Rates are on par with the ones in the USA, and gas is much cheaper.
