| Hi, Myself and two friends are planning a trip to Ecuador at the beginning of September. We would really like to go on a rafting trip on the Upper Rio Napo for 2 days and a night. Can anybody reccommend any lodges where we could stay and arrange a trip down the river? Ideally we would like to stay somewhere very nice in a stunning location |

Spent 3 nights at Cotococha Lodge (Have website- made reservations directly with lodge via internet- smooth plans)
You can bus or we flew round trip into Tena from Quito as planned by the lodge. (Best $100 spent!) Cotococha is maybe a 20 minute car ride from Tena airport - Lodge arranges with a charter plane co b/c does not fly every day, and can be canceled b/c of weather (not that often) Cotococha is very nice and looks and feels like one part Disney Robinson Caruso and one part exotic b/c whole place is small "tiki" type screened bungalows and they use no electricity (by design) instead, they deliver a couple of prelit oil lamps to your doorstep each night. This is not as hardcore rainforest as some of the other lodges, but the trade off is lower temps at night, a cool river to swim in right off the lodge, and safe class 1 and 2 rapids of very clean water to tube. The best part of being in this location is we did not get consumed by mosquitoes and there is not a malaria risk- A little Deet 30 went a long way. The Lodge uses a rafting company out of Tena called "River People" They do a great guided tour deeper into the river/ rainforest along the Napo 3 and some 4 class rapids. You can take motor canoes as deep as you want! |
