I am having a hard time getting a definite answer from a couple of places in Cuenca where I would like to stay during my trip there in August. Any suggestions for a mid-priced hotel, hosteria, posada or apartamento for a 4 or 5 night stay in or near Cuenca? There will be two adults travelling with two kids. Also - if I can't get a place reserved ahead of time, what are the chances of still being able to find a place mid week in mid August? Is that a particularly busy time in the Cuenca area?

I stayed at Hostal Macondo when I went to Cuenca - I'm not sure if you would consider it mid-rpiced, I thought it was darn cheap - $25 for a double including taxes more or less. It's in the middle of Cuenca, walking distance from the major sights, breakfast included. I stayed with my toddler son in one room, my parents in another - I'm not sure if they have adjoining rooms or something convenient if your kids or older. August is vacation time in Ecuador, but at least all the folks in Quito head out to the beach, so I guess your primary competition would be other foriegn tourists?....
