Nexus, Lenguas y Culturas is a private language institute accredited by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Education.

Nexus is located in Cuenca, a calm and quiet Andean city 40 minutes by plane from Quito, the capital of Ecuador, South America. The climate is temperate, as we are found in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains and rivers (hence the name Cuenca, which literally means 'river basin').

The Spanish department has students from various countries such as Germany, Canada, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Switzerland, England and the United States among others. The school offers different learning possibilities to assure a well round program throughout the year.

The basis of the courses is the modern usage of the Spanish Language and we focus on development of understanding of both spoken and written languages, as well as the ability to express oneself orally and in writing. The Nexus work on the four areas of language: speaking, writing, reading and listening comprehension. The courses also emphasize pronunciation, idioms and grammar.

Programs

Tutorials: The Nexus specialize in one on one or small group tutorials (maximum 3 students). This is the most popular program. Through these programs the students have accomplished a maximum level of command of the language. The lessons are tailored to suit the individual needs of anyone, from those requiring a particular high standard of language training to those who are wishing to make maximum progress in minimum time.

Funtional Spanish: Ideal for those of you who want to learn the language and use it for school, traveling, or work. Each of the six levels requires from 40 to 50 hours of instruction. Two week, four week, six week or eight week Spanish courses. The school focus on functional Spanish without forgetting to work on detailed grammar, writing and reading and the presentation of cultural topics and Latin American reality. These courses are available throughout the year and are adequate especially for high school or college students. Available upon request. Minimum of four students; maximum of ten, per class.

Spanish & Volunteers: The students who are interested in expanding their cultural experience in a special environment. The Nexus locate you in different places where you can experience another aspect of Ecuadorian culture and practice your Spanish. Some of the areas are: orphan houses and women's groups, health and ecology.

Honestay Program: The Nexus offers home stay accommodation for the students, because we think that a family stay is a good opportunity to practice "real life" Spanish. The school have an important data base of families in Cuenca who have been extensively prescreened to ensure their appropriateness as hosts. The Nexus also strive effectively to match the host family and students, to ensure that the experience is a fulfilling and enjoyable one to both. Some of the families are located close to the school and others a little further away, but the public transportation is convenient.
