Hey everyone,
I will be volunteering in Quito, Ecuador from December next summer for 8 weeks. I will be working monday till 2pm on friday and then will have friday afternoon and the weekend to spend doing the touristy things.
I am looking for recommended day/2 day trips which i can take from Quito by bus, i could leave fri afternoon and return sunday afternoon but that would be the maximum time. I would love to see the Andes, do horse riding (any good places to do experienced rides would be good), see the jungle, lakes, markets, towns etc... Short hikes would be cool, but no mountain climbing or really exhausting long walks.
Could you also please recommend places to stay in each area - budget to mid-range with hot (Safe) water. And how long the bus journeys are.
Thank you! |

There is so much to do!! As a start, two great weekend trips are Otavalo (artesania market, lake hikes, horse back riding) and Mindo (lush cloud forest with amazing bird watching). Otavalo is about 2 hours north and Mindo is about 2.5 hours west. Get a good guide book and you will find lot's more.
When it's closer to next summer, PM me and we might be able to help with an Otavalo visit.
