Hola,

I am intending to travel from New Zealand to Ecuador this coming January but thus far the airfares I have been quoted (either via Santiago or Buenos Aires) have been ridiculously expensive. Can anyone give me an alternative such as travelling to another major South American city and going overland to Quito. Or is it better for me to buy airfares for the Quito leg in one of those South American cities? Any suggestions would also be welcome.

There are no budget airlines in South America. Fares are according to normal international standards.
