Just wondering if anyone has any information on Manta, haven't found much...
Looking for accomodation... affordable, clean, safe... hostel will work
Surfing shops for rentals and lessons, and good spots for beginners
Places to eat and the night life
Appreciate any input

HI,

I used to live in Ecuador, and my one weekend in Manta was rewarded with the sight of a gang shooting on the main street with all the restaurants and bars. Apparently, there is a US navy base in Manta too, which the local gang boys dont like, so there is a bit of a gringo hating mentality there because of that. Im sure Manta does have some good points, but it is very rough. Montanita is pretty and a great place to learn to surf and meet other gringos. The only thing that some people dont like about Montanita is that it is very very touristy, but if you are travelling on your own, and want to meet people and party it up, its perfect.
