Hello,
We are planning to learn Spanish at one of the language schools in Quito in December. Currently our knowledge of Spanish is minimal.
Have you attended one of the schools or have a recommendation? -there are so many and on the web it is quite hard to choose between them.
Thanks, |

I went to this spanish school in Quito: Instituto Superior de EspaƱol
It is a great place. I studied there for two weeks then I went to Otavalo, where I also studied for two weeks at their spanish school there.
I stayed with a local family, in fact one of the teachers. It was a great experience, as they spoke spanish all the time, and I got to see how they live and eat the local food ect.
The teachers are great, but a little old fasioned, compared to teachers here (I am a teacher myself). They write down everything they teach you on a piece of paper, and then you get to keep it, and can use it when you practice. In the coffee breaks, you can sit in a nice living room or in the garden and talk to fellow students.
The school also aranges trip in the weekends. I went horseback riding to the volcano Antisana and I also went on a trip to the colonial part of Quito. They also have barbeques at night, and one time time we even had merengue-lessons.
The scool also offers free internet (at a nearby internet-place, maybe they have it at the school now, I don't know).
The scool is located in a nice part of Quito, where it is very safe. |

A couple years ago, I did a course through the Simon Bolivar school in Quito.
I had a great time. I loved the small 1-on-1 practice/lecture format almost as much as I enjoyed the late afternoon activities learn latin dancing one evening, how to cook Ecuadorean dishes anotehr, and MY favorite -- how to mix drinks the Ecuadorean way.
Have fun! |
