| We are staying in Quito 1 night, Napo Nature reserve 4 nights, 1 night Quito then off to Galapagos for 7 night cruise and back to Quito for 1 night. Any advice for prevention/cure for high altitude sickness. We are going in April 2007. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |

| You really will not be at high altitude for very much time. Just the three nights in Quito. I personally do not suffer from the change in altitude becouse I am from high altitude. Much depends on your age, health and where you are from. Usually what you could experience is a head ache untill your body adjusts, which is not likely since you will not stay long enough. You may feel nothing at all. I would say drink lots of water, avoid caffeine, which constricts your blood vessels and do not plan any major strenuous activity such as hiking or bicycling. |

Hi everyone,
Altitude sickness is real, yet is more of a pest than a true problem.
4 important tips:
- Eat light
- Pace out your walking, in other words - take it easy
- Drink a lot of water
- Absolutely no alcohol!
Good luck, have a fun and safe trip! |
