can anyone give me advice on a good but cheap place to stay in guayaqil. all the places on hostel websites look a bit pricey or grim !

WE stayed in a place called Las Peñas and it was quite nice if not basic....
Close to the Malecon but cannot remember the Address. Any taxi driver will take you there. If you don´t like the look of it, there are a number of hotels in the area...... so you can drop your bag and take a look at them....
I found guayaquil to be grim, full stop so I wouldn´t get too excited about the place (IMHO)....
