My friends & I have decided to get out the rat race this Xmas & New Year and have taken a month off to come over to Ecuador

We're looking for the perfect beach resort to spend this period - could anyone familiar with the region recommend some options? The main criteria are lowish cost, good people, uncommercial, watersports & some good bars/restaurants.
