I'm thinking about going in Galapagos and Ecuador one of these days, so I'm
starting collecting informations and sources for it.

Any input is welcome, but I'm specially interested in:

- having an idea of the prices (hotel rooms, meals, etc).

- it's advisable to take a package tour or it's possible to go on our own
(I like it better)?

- if it's too difficult to go to Galapagos on our own, is it easy, quick
and less expensive to get a package in Quito?

You can go by your own to Galapagos islands, but it can be dificult to find good journeys to other islands from Puerto Ayora. Sometimes You should have at least one month time to organize it.It is little more expensive in Quito, but it is much more easier. The tour organized in Quito not often start from Puerto Ayora and this is one problem to organize your own tour in Galapagos. There is plenty of offices on Av Amazonas in Quito organizing good tour.

I cannot help you with prices or agencies in Galapagos, but I certainly
know that it's much better to get a package than to travel on your own
since it will be much cheaper and organized, and also it will give you a
good chance of seeing as much as possible. A friend of mine tried to
travel on his own, and was a complete disaster even though he had made the
trip before.

Galapagos islands are beautiful and you will certainly enjoy it.
