Hi fellow travellers,

To celebrate our 40th birthdays next year, hubby and I are planning a trip of a lifetime to Peru, Amazon and the Galapagos Islands (hopefully with Explorer - though we are open to other suggestions). My question is really about when is the best time to travel - considering the weather, school holidays etc but MOSTLY we are wondering about when best to visit the islands as we hear the wildlife varies according to the season, so what can we expect to see and when?

We're fairly seasoned travellers, but have never visited S. America so any advice would be great!

I was in The Galapagos in early June and found the wildlife to be spectacular, although a lot of the islands were dry and plant life was not as incredible as I'm told it can be. Also visiblity under the water was supposed to be a little more limited but I din't notice it. I was in Peru and the Amazon in late June early July and the weather was fantastic. It didn't rain once while on the Inca trail or in the amazon. It was cold at night in most places because of the high alltitude but that just gives you a reason to wear all the cute ponchos and hats you'll by. One piece of advice...definately bring an underwater camera!
