Hi,

I fly to Quito early December for 3 weeks in Ecuador. I'm travelling alone, not for the first time, but I usually try and do activities where meeting other people is easy. (eg language schools, sport, popular routes etc. ) It seems silly not to make the trip to Galapagos while in Ecuador. I wouldn't call myself a wildlife lover but have read that you cannot fail to be amazed with the Galapgos. The prices are obviously high but more off putting is whether travelling solo would prevent me having as good a time on the islands as say a week studying in Quito and then various3-4 day trips from Quito. Pretty much all the experiences I have read of the Galapagos are from couples or groups.

Are there cruises/ boats particularly for solo travellers? Don't want to be the third wheel on a cruise of couples/ familiies!!!

There seems so much to do in Ecuador I am considering giving the Galapagos a miss (partly because of the doubts expressed above). However I don't know if I'll ever return to Ecuador and have another chance.

Any advice (particularly from solo travellers who have been to Ecuador/ Galapagos) would be much appreciated?

Cheers.

I traveled in the Galápagos as a solo female. It was on the Angelito, one of the smaller yachts. The food was great, the crew very attentive. I was NEVER made to feel like a third wheel, tho' the rest of the passengers were couples.

I was there with my girlfriend in March. We met lots of men and women traveling alone. Some we still keep in touch with. It is not a barrier to having a good time. Don't let being alone stop you. It is a unique experience and you will be missing out on something special if you don't go. Have fun.
