I'm coming over to Ecuador (arriving Quito) at the end of August and I'll be spending about 3 months in South America, ending up in Buenos Aires.
I'm thinking of starting in Manta for a couple weeks to brush up on my spanish before heading south. (don't worry I wont miss Montanita!!)
I'm at lower intermediate level I guess used to surfing the west of Ireland.
Anyways.. the questions...
1) Will I be able to pick up a board ok in Manta (the airline wants 420 euro EACH WAY to fly one from home)
2) Is manta a good choice or is there somewhere else I should be looking at first? (my reason for choosing it is that there seems to be a pretty good spanish school there).
3) How big a pain in the...will it be lugging a 6'9"ish board around on busses etc.
4) Anything else I should know.

North is excellent from December to April South is good all year.
If your plan is August, then head to Playas is very cheap but not good hotels there is 1 hour from Guayaquil traveling on busses is a pain... even if you don´t have a board about the airline cost, you can sell the board here if it´s new you can make more than 500 forget the spanish school, get a girlfriend
