Who's been? Was it worth it? How did you get there? Any recommendations of touring company?
Not sure we have time for the Galapagos Islands or the money. Also, not sure we're into being with a group of tourists for 5+ days or so.
Your thoughts? What have other people done as options here ...
Thanks! |

We went to Isla de la Plata and had a good trip altough it's not the same like galapagos but still a lot of wildlife and beautiful nature. We stayed in a hostel near puerto lopez and the owner arranged everything for us...so we didn't go with a tour company instead rented a boat and went on our own. I think thats the best way to do it if you can afford. we payed 80 dollars for the boat, driver and petrol...if you are a 4 persons it is not that much. If you want to stay at a nice hostel i recommend hosteria-islamar. it's not budget but worth every penny and the swiss owner is very helpful and can help you to rent a boat.
The nearby machalilla national park is also worth a visit. you can go on our own, the beach is amazing.
have fun |

| We did a day trip there 10 years ago. It's known as the'Poor man's Galapagos' and quite enjoyable and of course much cheaper than Galapagos. We went by boat from Puerto Lopez but can't remember the name of the company. However there were several of them there so you could take your pick as they all seemed much the same. |
