The Centers for Interamerican Studies (CEDEI) is a not-for-profit institution of higher learning, dedicated to the study of American languages and cultures.
The Fundacion Centro de Estudios Interamericanos, was founded in 1992 in recognition of the 500th anniversary of the meeting of the Old and New Worlds.
The main campus, situated in the beautiful colonial heart of the city on Tarqui at Pío Bravo, is home to our administrative offices, library and computer lab, as well as classrooms for Spanish.
Programs
Intensive Course includes 20 Spanish lessons per week (1 lesson = 45 minutes) and 5 Culture lessons per week. There is a maximum of 4 students per group in Spanish lessons and books and material required for the course.
Intensive plus Course is offered throughout the year. It is aimed at students who wish to improve oral or written Spanish, specific terminology, learn business language, etc. It has a total of 30 lessons per week. It’s an Intensive Course (20 lessons) + 10 lessons of “One-to-One” (Private tuition).
Private Four Hour Course is also available. This is 20 hours per week of private one-on-one with a teacher. All course materials are included as well as 5 cultural lessons per week.
Beginning Spanish Intensive. Fundamental skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Elements of grammar, oral practice and elementary composition. Emphasis on active participation. For students or other adults with little or no Spanish experience.
Business Spanish: Introduction in Spanish for the Business World; a review of useful terms, vocabulary and customs.
Advanced Spanish Grammar and Syntax: Intensive study of grammar and syntax with emphasis on grammatical analysis.
Southern Ecuador offers singular opportunities to students as well as researchers with interests in fields such as Andean Studies, Tropical Biology, Indigenous Languages and Anthropology -- to name just a few. CEDEI staff works with students to design research projects, and assists with local arrangements for field researchers with projects in the province of Azuay and the adjoining area.
