Hi guys
Anyone been to Banos or Peurto Lopez?
I´m trying to plan where to spend Christmas and the New Year and have narrowed it down to Banos or Peurto Lopez.
What are they like? (I´m not into the 24/7 nightclub/party scene a la Quito!) Will they get overrun during the holidays? Do you know if there are things to do or does everything shut down over the holidays? Any suggestions for good hostels?
And is there any way of getting down to Puerto Lopez without going thru the dreaded Guayaquil? (I´ve heard there is a direct day bus from Quito but not sure if there is a similar one from Cuenca.)
Suggestions appreciated!
Thanks |

| The only way to get to PL is from the north or south. The south involves Guayaquil. The north option is to go direct from Quito to Manta (the bus company I believe is Carlos Alberto Aray), and from there change buses to any going to PL. My guess is Banos is more likely to be overrun with travellers, and Puerto Lopez by Ecuadorians over New Years. Christmas you can usually find a room anywhere, as people tend to stay home or visit relatives. |

hi there
we took a direct bus from quito (terminal terrestre in the old town) to Puerto Lopez last April. It took about 8 hours, leaving in the moring...I can't remember the company's name but there's only one. It goes to Puertovjeo first and then to Puerto Lopez.
have fun |
